Description
An oral history interview conducted on November 11, 2017, with Byron Gibbs of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Gibbs served in the United States Air Force from 1968-1972 during the Vietnam War. He discusses: his decision to volunteer; being redlined from serving in Vietnam; being stationed in Alaska and transcribing intercepted Morse code from the Russians; and his experience of transcribing Morse code from a Russian pilot who had entered American airspace. He also shares a poem that he wrote about Vietnam veterans called “Don’t Forget About Us.”
