This episode of the series “Louisiana: The State We’re In” from November 8, 1996, features Robert Collins leading a panel discussion on the November 5th statewide election results with: Dr. Wayne Parent, a political science professor at LSU; Ed Steimel, a gambling opponent and the founder of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI); and Ed Reed, political consultant. Prior to the discussion, Collins presents the election results in several races, including former State Treasurer Mary Landrieu’s victory over State Representative Woody Jenkins by 5,899 votes. The panelists discuss: the Senate race; the results of the local option election on gambling; and Jenkins’ assertion that there may have been voting irregularities. During the discussion, Collins also presents clips of the election night speeches of Landrieu and Jenkins.
